Russian national triathlon team to take part in Rio Olympics - Russian sports official
MOSCOW. July 25 (Interfax) - President of the International Triathlon Union (ITU), IOC member Marisol Casado has confirmed to Russian Triathlon Federation president Sergei Bystrov that the Russian national triathlon team will be able to compete in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
"I had a telephone conversation with ITU President Marisol Casado. She said that at present she sees no reason to not allow the Russian national team and is glad that Russia will be able to take part in triathlon tournaments," Bystrov said in a statement posted on the website of the Russian Triathlon Federation.
"The maximum allowed number of athletes, three men and three women, qualified for the Rio Games. This is the best result of the Russian national team in the whole history of triathlon at the Olympic Games starting from 2000. Just five countries were able to win the maximum quota of six people, and Russia is one of them," Bystrov said.
