Kremlin welcomes IOC decision on Russia
MOSCOW. July 25 (Interfax) - The Kremlin welcomes the decision made by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), which has given sports federations the right to grant Russian athletes access to the 2016 Olympics, Russian presidential press officer Dmitry Peskov said.
"No doubt, we naturally welcome the main decision that enables so-called clean athletes to participate in the Olympic Games at the discretion of the international federations and believe that it is a positive decision," he told reporters, commenting on the IOC decisions on Russian athletes' participation in the Olympics announced earlier.
"Some other decisions emphasize once again the need for closer interaction with the IOC, its structures, international sports organizations to eliminate the consequences of the so-called doping scandal," Peskov said.
"Our additional efforts will be needed to explain our position, to present arguments, and in this case we hope that the Smirnov commission created on our president's initiative will play a key role here," he said in this regard.
