Former Yukos shareholders not to demand that Russian assets be attached in Germany under Hague court ruling on $50 bln compensation - Russian defense team

MOSCOW. July 27 (Interfax) - Former Yukos shareholders have withdrawn their claim for attaching Russian assets in Germany to secure the payment of $50 billion compensation, Andrei Kondakov, head of the International Legal Defense Center representing Russia in this dispute, said.

"Our lawyers in Germany have reported the official withdrawal of the Yukos claim against Russia in that country," Kondakov told Interfax on Wednesday.

He said the plaintiffs had filed the claim for enforcement proceeding as regards Russian assets in Germany with the Berlin court.

"The court hearing was scheduled for September 29, 2016. After having realized that the action was unpromising and they would probably lose the case, the former Yukos shareholders made the first reasonable decision not to bring the case to court," Kondakov said.
