Putin's visit to Beijing gives new momentum to development of Russian-Chinese strategic partnership - Chinese ambassador

MOSCOW. Aug 2 (Interfax) - The visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Beijing in June, 2016 became another landmark on the path of development of relations of comprehensive strategic partnership and cooperation between China and Russia, Chinese Ambassador to Russia Li Hui told reporters.

"Putin's visit to Russia was a complete success, it gave a powerful momentum to further development of Chinese-Russian relations and intensification of practical cooperation between the two countries," he said.

During the visit of the Russian president and his negotiations with Chinese President Xi Jinping the sides confirmed the importance of the relations between two countries for the purposes of developing the new, fair international order and maintenance of peace and stability on a global scale.

"The presidents of our countries unanimously believe that it is necessary to continue to adhere to the spirit of strategic partnership and the idea of friendship passed from generation to generation, increase the strength of mutual support, boost the level of mutual political and strategic confidence, irrevocably devote all energy to the intensification of Chinese-Russian relations of comprehensive strategic cooperation and partnership, constantly facilitate the implementation of integration of the development strategies of the two countries, tirelessly build the new fair and rational international order and bring an appropriate contribution to the maintenance of peace, stability and development of the world," Li Hui said.

"I can say that the importance of this visit is vast and its results are significant," he said.

He recalled that the 15th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation between China and Russia and the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the relations of partnership and strategic cooperation between Russia and China are being celebrated this year, and that they determined the strategic nature of Russian-Chinese cooperation in various sectors.

"The Chinese side, together with the Russian one, intends to adhere to the spirit of the Treaty in any possible way, strengthen mutual political and strategic confidence between the countries, increase mutual support, facilitate the implementation of integration of the development strategies of the two countries, develop cooperation in aligning the development of One Belt One Road [the New Silk Road] and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), closely cooperate and coordinate efforts in important international and regional issues," he said.

He said that Putin will pay a visit to China again in the latter half of the year to participate in the G20 summit, which will take place in the Chinese city of Hangzhou, and that Chinese State Council Premier Li Keqiang will visit Russia to participate in the 21st regular meeting of the heads of governments of Russia and China.

"I believe these two important political events will become a new step in the intensification and development of the relations of comprehensive strategic cooperation and partnership. Both sides should use these opportunities to transform the high level of strategic cooperation into considerable results for the benefit of the two countries and the people of our countries," he said.
