Putin, Erdogan to discuss stage-by-stage cancellation of special measures against Turkey, resumption of Turkish food shipments - Ushakov
MOSCOW. Aug 5 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will discuss the gradual lifting of Russian special measures against Turkey and in particular, resumption of Turkish food exports to Russia during their meeting in St. Petersburg, Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov told reporters.
"Of course, the issues related to trade and economy will be discussed," he said, noting that the volume of trade between Russia and Turkey was down 26% in 2015 and further decreased by 43% in January-May this year.
Ushakov went on to recall that it is planned to gradually lift the special economic measures introduced earlier by Russia against Turkey. The two presidents will discuss prospects for resumption of Turkish food shipments to Russia.
However, Ushakov highlighted that it would be emphasized during the talks that the Turkish side would need to prevent the goods coming from the European Union or any other countries on the list of the Russian countersanctions from being re-exported via Turkish territory.
Also, Ushakov revealed that a medium-term program of the bilateral cooperation in trade, economy, scientific research and culture for 2016-2019 is currently being drafted by the governments of the two countries. This topic will also be raised at the summit planned to be held in St. Petersburg next Tuesday, he said.
