Polish president to visit Kyiv on Ukraine's Independence Day
KYIV. Aug 9 (Interfax) - Polish President Andrzej Duda will visit Kyiv on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Ukrainian independence, the two countries' heads of state are expected to issue a joint statement, according to the website of Polish Radio's Ukrainian-language service which cited the Polish Presidential Chancellery's Secretary of State, Krzysztof Szczerski.
"On August 24 Andrzej Duda will attend celebrations of the 25th anniversary of Ukraine's independence in Kyiv. There will be a joint political declaration by the Polish and Ukrainian presidents on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the independence of Ukraine... the declaration will focus on the Ukrainian independence and Polish contribution into it," the statement said.
Furthermore, on August 24 the Polish president will speak in front of Ukrainian ambassadors in Kyiv.
It was reported that at their meeting in Warsaw in July Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko offered Duda to pay a joint visit to a Ukrainian cemetery in the Polish village of Sahryn, and also invited Duda to visit Ukraine on its 25th independence anniversary.
The Polish president's website stated at the time that Duda decided to visit Kyiv on the day when Ukraine celebrates its independence.
