Freight turnover up 0.5% in Kazakhstan in Jan-July

ALMATY. Aug 12 (Interfax) - The freight turnover in Kazakhstan totaled 283,474 billion tonne-km in January-July 2016, or an increase of 0.5% year-on-year, the Statistics Committee of the National Economy Ministry said.

In the reporting period rail transportation declined 1.1% to 130.356 billion tonne-km, road transportation edged up 0.8% to 83.882 billion tonne-km, sea transportation fell 11.7% to 937.2 million tonne-km and air transportation decreased 7.9% to 21.2 million tonne-km; pipeline transportation rose 3.5% to 68,269 billion tonne-km.

In January-July 2016, passenger traffic increased 2.2% year-on-year to reach 146.982 billion passenger-kilometers in Kazakhstan.

The population of Kazakhstan is over 17.7 million people.
