Seven truce violations by armed opposition groups observed in Syria in past 24 hours

MOSCOW. Aug 16 (Interfax-AVN) - The cessation of hostilities regime in Syria has been generally complied with by armed opposition groups in the past 24 hours, the Russian center for reconciliation of opposing sides said on Monday.

"Seven violations of the ceasefire regime have been registered over the past day in the provinces of Damascus (six) and Latakia (one)," the center said in a report posted on the Russian Defense Ministry's website.

"Formations from the Jaysh al-Islam group identifying itself as opposition fired mortars on the populated localities of Arbil, Harasta, Haush al-Shalaq, Jaubar, Jisrein and Duma in the Damascus province," the report said.

The Ahrar ash-Sham armed group attacked the populated locality of Ara in the Latakia province.

"The Russian Aerospace Forces and the Syrian Air Force did not strike on opposition paramilitary units, which had declared the cessation of hostilities and had informed either the Russian or U.S. reconciliation center about their location," the center said.

"More than two tonnes of humanitarian cargo - rice, sugar, tea and canned meat and fish - were delivered to poor families in the populated locality of Shvekha in the Hama province," the report said.

"The government of the Syrian Arab Republic is in control of the humanitarian situation in the western part of the city of Aleppo. Hot food and first aid stations are operating within humanitarian corridors," it said.

Formations from the Jabhat al-Nusra and ISIL groups (both banned in Russia) continue to impede a final cessation of hostilities.

According to the reconciliation center, terrorists fired rocket launchers and mortars on the populated locality of Beniyamin, the Hai al-Ansari district and the Castello shopping center in the city of Aleppo in the Aleppo province in the past 24 hours.

Terrorists attacked the populated localities of Haush Nasri, Kabun, Huteita al-Jarash, Bahariyah, Barza and Arbil in the Damascus province, and Maksar-al-Hasan and Ashrafiyah in the Homs province, the report said.
