Kyiv reports 52 militia attacks on Ukrainian army positions

KYIV. Aug 17 (Interfax) - The militia has shelled Ukrainian army positions 52 times since the beginning of the day, the army operation press center said.

The hostiles fired 60 122mm artillery projectiles on Chermalyk, and weapons of the same caliber were used against Novoselivka and Maryinka in the Mariupol sector; 152mm artillery was used in Rybinske. Mortars shelled Slavne, Krasnohorivka, Lybidinske, Chermalyk and Shyrokyne. Infantry combat vehicles were used in Novohryhorivka and Maryinka, and sniper activity was observed there.

In the Donetsk sector, the hostiles fired 82mm and 120mm mortars, grenade launchers of various types and large-caliber machineguns in Avdiivka, Zaitseve, Mayorsk and Luhanske. The situation was also unstable in Verkhnotoretske, Kamyanka, Novoselivka Druha and Novhorodske.

In the Luhansk sector, the hostiles fired 122mm artillery on positions in Vrubovka. The militia used various types of grenade launchers against fortifications in Stanitsa Luhanska, Novooleksandrivka and Popasna. Infantry combat vehicles were also used in Popasna. A sniper duo was active in Novooleksandrivka and Stanitsa Luhanska.

Later on, the Ukrainian State Border Service press service reported a grenade launcher attack of the hostiles on the Stanitsa Luhanska checkpoint.

The hostiles were firing on the Stanitsa Luhanska checkpoint in the period from 9 p.m. till midnight on August 16, it said. The gunfire was coming from Prince Ihor Mount, and the hostiles were using grenade launchers and small arms, the State Border Service said.

Police suffered no casualties and did not return fire, it said.
