Ukrainian prosecutor general agrees to Yanukovych's offer of face-to-face interrogation, ready to organize it in Kyiv

KYIV. Aug 18 (Interfax) - Ukrainian Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko has supported the idea of holding face-to-face interrogation with the country's former President Viktor Yanukovych and has said that he is ready to organize it in Kyiv.

"As for Yanukovych's wish to give testimony and participate in a so-called face-to-face interrogation, I deeply support it and will be happy to personally organize it for him in the territory of Ukraine's capital. As soon as Yanukovych musters the courage to answer to the Ukrainian people for everything that was committed, he will have both a face-to-face interrogation, a fair trial and even a fair verdict," Lutsenko said at a press briefing on Thursday.

"Yanukovych turned out to be a weakling, a traitor of the state who usurped power, plundered the country and ruined the Armed Forces and security forces of Ukraine. Eventually, he fled to the territory of a neighboring state and from there called for armed aggression against Ukraine," Lutsenko said, adding that the former president would not be able to tell Ukraine and Ukrainian investigators what to do in relation to him.
