Moldovan businessman Shor to spend another month under house arrest
CHISINAU. Aug 18 (Interfax) - A court in Chisinau has extended the house arrest for the Moldovan businessman and Orhei town mayor Ilan Shor for 30 days.
The decision was made by Chisinau's Buiucani sector court on Thursday, an Interfax correspondent reported from the courtroom.
The prosecution will challenge this decision as being "unreasonably soft": Shor must be remanded in custody, the prosecutor told journalists.
Meanwhile, the businessman's lawyer Denis Ulanov voiced concerns over the unlawful harshness of the lower court ruling.
"This decision is unsubstantiated. The prosecutors have presented no new evidence of my client's guilt. The arguments are all the same. On the other hand, we have presented in court 17,000 signatures of Moldovan citizens who think Shor must be released on surety. This is what the defense team is trying to secure," Ulanov said.
Some 150 people came to support Shor. Having gathered outside the court building, they demanded the businessman's total release.
