Putin calls on Crimean, Sevastopol leaders to attach priority to road network

BAKALSKAYA KOSA, Crimea. Aug 19 (Interfax) - The road network in the Crimean Peninsula is mostly in poor condition, and the heads of Crimea and Sevastopol should attach priority to this problem, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

Meeting with head of the Crimean administration Sergei Aksyonov and acting Sevastopol Governor Dmitry Ovsyannikov on Friday, Putin said an extra five billion rubles was allocated to develop the internal road network in the Crimean Peninsula in 2016.

"Sergei Vladimirovich [Aksyonov] has assured me that this money will be used and disbursed appropriately," Putin said, adding that part of this funding will also be "spent on Sevastopol."

"To put it mildly, there is something to be done about this," he said.

"We have planned major highways actually of federal level to be connected with the bridge crossing leading to Sevastopol. But the internal road network is still in quite deplorable condition, and it's so far been disregarded. Therefore, we need to make at least first steps toward improving this condition," Putin said, inviting Aksyonov and Ovsyannikov to discuss the matter.
