CSTO Enduring Brotherhood-2016 exercise to take place in Belarus with UN mission's participation

MOSCOW. Aug 21 (Interfax-AVN) - The Enduring Brotherhood-2016 exercise of the Collective Security Treaty Organization's (CSTO) peacekeeping forces will be held in Belarus from August 23 to August 27, the organization's secretariat said.

It will be the first CSTO exercise during which CSTO forces will receive a mandate of the UN Security Council and will operate in an imaginary crisis-hit region in interaction with a UN mission, it said.

"This routine, fifth, peacekeeping exercise of the CSTO will take place at the Obuz-Lesnovsky training range near the city of Baranovichi on the territory of Belarus. The official scenario of the exercise is 'preparing for and conducting a peacekeeping operation by the CSTO Collective Peacekeeping Forces'," it said.

The event's program envisages practicing a number of innovative approaches, including updated methods of tackling peacekeeping tasks as part of present-day comprehensive peacekeeping operations.

The exercise will involve more than 1,000 officers and peacekeepers from the Armed Forces, the Internal Troops and the police of all of the CSTO's six member states - Armenia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Russia and Tajikistan - as well as over 500 aircraft, armored vehicles and automotive vehicles.
