One militiaman killed, 2 wounded in Ukrainian army attacks - DPR
DONETSK. Aug 23 (Interfax) - Nearly 300 attacks have been observed in the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic in the past 24 hours; one militiaman is dead and two are wounded, Eduard Basurin, a senior officer of the DPR Defense Ministry, said.
"The Ukrainian army breached the truce 290 times over the past day. The hostiles continued to fire artillery on the republic's territory. In all, ten 122mm artillery projectiles and 251 82mm and 120mm mines were fired. The attacks also engaged infantry combat vehicles, grenade launchers and small arms," Basurin said.
Eight buildings were damaged in Kominternove and Donetsk's Petrovskyi district during bombardments the previous day, he said.
"One DPR serviceman was killed and two suffered injuries," the officer added.
"Ukrainian army attacks have exhibited a downward trend in the past two days because OSCE SMM Principal Deputy Chief Monitor Alexander Hug is working in the republic," Basurin said.
Against the backdrop of a relative decline in the number of Ukrainian army attacks, Ukrainian special operations forces have stepped up their attempts to sabotage crucial infrastructures of the republic, he said.
"An act of sabotage committed by them yesterday damaged trunk lines of MTS and Fenix cell operators in the Donetsk Petrovskyi, Kuibyshevskyi and Voroshilovskyi districts and the populated localities of Olenivka and Dokuchayevsk," he said.
