Terrorist group leader detained in Kyrgyzstan
BISHKEK. Aug 24 (Interfax) - The leader of a covert terrorist group has been detained in Bishkek, a representative of the Kyrgyz State Committee for National Security told Interfax on Wednesday.
"The State Committee for National Security held an operation in Bishkek on the night from August 23 to 24 to detain the leader of a covert terrorist group," he said.
"A Makarov handgun, an RGD-5 grenade, bomb detonators, 5.45mm and 9mm cartridges, electronic media containing jihadist materials, and three cell phones were seized from the detainee, 'O.I.', born in 1992," he said.
A criminal case was opened and officers of the State Committee for National Security continued investigative procedures.
A committee spokesman told Interfax earlier there were no casualties in the detention of the member of a banned radical organization. "No reasons to worry, no one is hurt," he said.
Local media said on Wednesday there was a shootout in the Kyrgyz capital city. The media said a man was killed during an operation of the Alfa special operations unit of the State Committee for National Security near the railroad terminal.
