Russian Sports Minister Mutko: McLaren report to be legally assessed next week
MOSCOW. Aug 27 (Interfax) - The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) independent commission report by Richard McLaren has been analyzed and will be assessed in legal terms within the next few days, Russian Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko said.
"It was hard to obtain the report, but we did this, translated and studied it, and now we are ready to evaluate it and will start evaluating it in legal terms next week," Mutko said.
Political interference in sports has grown over the past several years, Mutko said.
"We have seen over the past four years that politics and government bodies have been interfering in the sports movement increasingly more often. We have seen this in football, where the world football federation has been virtually destroyed - I mean the latest events in FIFA, where one law enforcement system has interfered in the activity of a non-governmental organization uniting 205 countries. There is gross political interference not based on the law," he said.
