Russian Emergency Situations Ministry's specialists disarm 18 dud munitions in Serbia in past 45 days

MOSCOW. Aug 30 (Interfax) - A combined unit of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry has disarmed 18 dud munitions in Serbia in the past 45 days, the ministry press service said.

"Demolition experts of the ministry have examined nearly 170,000 square meters of terrain in Serbia since July 15; they have found and disarmed 18 munitions," the press service said.

The combined unit in Serbia consists of specialists from the Leader center and the Noginsk rescue center of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry. They are equipped with demining gear and robots.

The ministry fulfilled a humanitarian demining program in Serbia in 2008-2015. During that period, more than 200 ministry specialists from the Noginsk rescue center and the Leader high-risk rescue center were trained to comply with international mine-action standards.

More than 4.6 million square meters of land have been cleared of mines and cluster munitions and put to economic use by joint efforts in the past eight years; nearly 13,000 projectiles have been found and disarmed.
