Turkey in lead for Russian grain procurements this agricultural year - center for evaluating grain quality

MOSCOW. Aug 31 (Interfax) - Turkey is in the lead for procurements of Russian grain this agricultural year, which began on July 1, 2016, the Center for Evaluating the Safety and Quality of Grain and Grain Products said in materials.

From July 1 until August 22 of this year, 976,900 tonnes of grain were shipped to Turkey from Russia, which amounts to 15.5% of exports. The second largest buyer was Egypt with 686,300 tonnes (10.9%)

On August 1-22 Turkey bought 453,300 tonnes of grain (13.8% of exports). Egypt was again in second place, importing 273,200 tonnes (8.3%) of Russian grain.

Turkey was in the lead for grain procurements from Russia for the week of August 16-22 with 122,800 tonnes (12.2%).

According to the center, since the start of this agricultural year (July 1-August 22) 6.5 million tonnes of Russian grain and grain products have been shipped. The bulk of the exports, 5.7 million tonnes, were wheat. Barley supplies accounted for 850,700 tonnes, corn - 27,800 tonnes.

In addition, 217,100 tonnes of grain legume crops were shipped, 167,300 tonnes of grain products, 107,000 tonnes of feed and ingredients. The buyers of these products included 90 countries.

The center also said that on August 1-22 exports amounted to 3.3 million tonnes, including 2.6 million tonnes of wheat and 392,600 tonnes of barley.

During the previous agricultural year Turkey bought 4.34 million tonnes of Russian grain (27% less than in the 2014-2015 agricultural year), second to Egypt (6.25 million tonnes).
