Proposal exists on including representatives of self-proclaimed Donbas republics in Ukraine Contact Group - source
MINSK. Sept 2 (Interfax) - A suggestion has been put forth to broaden the trilateral format of the Contact Group for Ukraine in Minsk by giving a permanent seat in it to representatives of the self-proclaimed Donbas republics.
"Following the Contact Group's videoconference, which was held yesterday, the need to broaden the trilateral format by including representatives of certain districts of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions in it on an equitable basis became obvious," a source in the group that organizes the talks told Interfax on Friday.
In such a way, it has been proposed to expand today's trilateral format to a five-party one on a permanent basis.
"What is meant here is the application of a 'three plus two' formula: Russia, Ukraine, the OSCE plus certain districts of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions," the source said.
