Document on adaptation of CIS to new conditions to be considered at Bishkek summit - CIS executive secretary
MOSCOW. Sept 8 (Interfax) - The meeting of the CIS countries' foreign ministers will take place in Bishkek on September 16, and following it the meeting of the CIS heads of state will be held, CIS Executive Committee Chairman - Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev said.
"The foreign ministers will converge in Bishkek on September 16 for their next meeting and the CIS Heads of State Council meeting will be held following it. At this meeting the important decisions on the adaptation of the CIS to the new conditions will be adopted," he said at a session of the Open Tribune discussion platform in the Russian State Duma on Thursday.
He said that the decision on preparation of such document, which will include the issues of CIS's adaptation to the new conditions, was made on the initiative of Kazakhstan last year and was supported by other CIS countries.
"No organization should stand still, including the Commonwealth of Independent States, the discussions on the reforms of UN and OSCE are constantly underway, and those who do not adapt to the new conditions, fall behind the times and are doomed to die away," he said.
The improvement of the CIS activities, increase of the efficiency in its work are the current immediate demands, he said.
Adoption of such document will allow CIS to take measures of increasing the efficiency of its work in the future.
