Russia exporting peas at record pace - expert

MOSCOW. Sept 9 (Interfax) - Russia is exporting peas at a record pace in the current agricultural year (July 2016-June 2017), the head of agricultural market research institute IKAR, Dmitry Rylko, told Interfax.

Russia has exported 275,000 tonnes of peas since the farm year began. "We have never exported so many peas in a comparable period," he said.

It exported 152,000 tonnes of peas in the same period last year.

Turkey is the chief importer of Russian peas, Rylko said. Russia also exports peas to Bangladesh, India and other countries.

Russia exported 703,000 tonnes of peas in the previous agricultural year, out of a total of 1.080 million tonnes of legumes it exported. Pea exports may total 750,000 tonnes this year.

The acreage sown with peas increased to 1.089 million hectares this year, up from 0.942 million ha last year.
