Belarusian parliamentary elections passed without incidents at polling stations - Interior Ministry

MINSK. Sept 11 (Interfax) - Neither incidents nor rude public order violations have taken place at the polling stations on the day of parliamentary elections in Belarus, the republic's Interior Ministry said on Sunday.

"No significant incidents related to the competence of the internal affairs bodies have been registered at the stations for voting and the adjacent areas," the ministry said in a statement.

The public order has been protected at all the polling stations, the ministry said. "The personnel of the internal affairs agencies have been put on high alert. The set of measures aimed at the prevention of misdemeanors has been implemented. The operational situation headquarters, where the information coming from the whole of the republic has been analyzed, has been operating round-the-clock," the Interior Ministry said.

None of incidents at the polling stations, gross public order breaches and other factors, which have a negative impact on the crime situation, have been registered, Belarusian Interior Ministry's law and order protection and prevention main directorate head Roman Melnik said.

"The work of policemen had not been so effective, but for the support of people. We sincerely thank our fellow citizens for the understanding of the importance of the passed event, assistance in holding the elections without any public order violations and the high level of respect to the law," the statement quoted Melnik as saying.

The Sunday parliamentary elections in Belarus are valid in all 110 constituencies in the country, the Belarusian Central Elections Commission said earlier. The voter turnout has reached 67.66% as of 6 p.m. at the parliamentary elections in Belarus, according to the commission. The preliminary election results will be announced at a press conference at about 00.00 on Monday.
