Part of Castello Road shelled on Monday evening - Russian Defense Ministry

MOSCOW. Sept 13 (Interfax-AVN) - The cessation of hostilities in the northern part of the Syrian city of Aleppo has largely held since 7 p.m. Moscow time on Monday, Col. Sergei Kapitsyn, deputy head of the Russian Center for reconciliation of opposing sides in Aleppo, said during a video conference with Moscow on Tuesday.

"At the same time, between 8:10 p.m. and 8:20 p.m. mortars were fired from the Kafr-Hamrah against a section of Castello Road controlled by governmental troops. As a result, two were killed and one Syrian soldier injured," Kapitsyn said.

"We are on Castello Road where efforts to equip a checkpoint of the Syrian Red Crescent Society are nearing completion. Upon Syria's report, it will be ready for handover to this organization's representatives tonight by 7 p.m.," the officer said.

"A total of 20 personnel have been allocated from the Bustan and Shield militia units to protect the checkpoint and its personnel," he said.

"Under the Russian-U.S. agreements of September 9, before control over the checkpoint is handed over to UN representatives, the road will be open only to trucks tested and sealed by the UN Monitoring Mission, while the Syrian Red Crescent Society staff will be checking seals for intactness and let vehicles with humanitarian aid pass freely," he said.

"In addition, Syrian government army units and militia forces are now finishing equipping the positions to remove the personnel and heavy weaponry as far as stipulated by the September 9 agreement," the officer said.

"Upon Syria's report, governmental troops are ready, from 9 a.m. September 15, to remove their forces, synchronously with opposition groups, and create a demilitarized zone in the Castello road area," he said.
