Domodedovo passenger traffic falls 12% in Aug to 3.4 mln people

MOSCOW. Sept 15 (Interfax) - The passenger traffic at the Domodedovo Airport fell by almost 12% year-on-year in August 2016 to 3.36 million people, according to statistics for the 8M, which was published on the website of the airport's operating company.

Domestic flights through Domodedovo fell by 5.6% to 1.93 million passengers. International passenger transport also fell, they fell by 19% to 1.43 million people.

In the 8M, Domodedovo passenger traffic amounted to 19.27 million people, which is 9.2% lower than last year's figure. Among the domestic routes, the leaders by growth rates of passenger traffic were Sochi, Novosibirsk, Chelyabinsk, Mineralnye Vody and Samara, the airport said in a statement. Since the start of the year, flights along these routes carried 2.6 million people, which is 34% more than the figure for 2015.

The highest growth rates for international passenger traffic in the 8M were seen in flights to Larnaca, Phuket, Minsk, Punta Cana and Yerevan. Flights carrying 1.2 million people went to these destinations, which is 70% more than last year.

In 2016, Domodedovo is forecasting a drop in its passenger traffic by 5%,Domodedovo director for aviation marketing Vyacheslav Grushin told Interfax earlier.

It was reported earlier that the other airport in the Moscow hub, Sheremetyevo, increased passenger traffic by 2.4% in August to 3.5 million people. Vnukovo Airport still has not yet published figures for last month.
