Medvedev: can confidently say United Russia won Duma elections

MOSCOW. Sept 18 (Interfax) - Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has announced the United Russia party's victory in the State Duma elections.

"I would like to take this opportunity and thank all citizens of our country who came to the polls and demonstrated their civic position by voting, a significant part of them voted for United Russia. One can confidently say: our party has won," Medvedev said at the party's headquarters on Sunday evening.

The final result of vote counting in the State Duma elections will not be known before tomorrow morning, but it is already possible to speak about United Russia's victory, he said.

"The result is good: our party will have an absolute majority. But how big this majority is will be determined as a result of the vote counting," Medvedev said.
