Russian Paralympians can file lawsuits with Strasbourg court - Lukin

MOSCOW. Sept 19 (Interfax) - Russian Paralympic Committee (RPC) head Vladimir Lukin is surprised with the German Constitutional Court's decision, which had dismissed a claim lodged by the Russian Paralympians, now the athletes can go to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).

"In fact, this was expected. The point is actually to pass the procedure so that those athletes, who will wish and want, will be able to file lawsuits with the European Court of Human Rights," Lukin said.

Now the athletes have such an opportunity, he said. "As far as I know, someone is drafting these documents," he said.

Besides, the RPC head said that the most important thing is "to reach understanding, finish the disputes and settle the issue of suspending Russian Paralympic Committee's membership." "This process is fully in the hands of [International Paralympic Committee] the IPC. They say that they will shortly send to us the documents, a roadmap of how to act. When they send them, then we will discuss it," he said.

The IPC ought to send the proposal "to remove those impediments, which exist on the path to our return," he said.
