Son of opposition candidate for mayor of Armenia's Gyumri killed
YEREVAN. Sept 20 (Interfax) - The son of Prosperous Armenia opposition party member Vardevan Grigoryan, a candidate for the post of mayor of Gyumri, which is Armenia's second largest city, has been murdered.
"Arshak Grogiryan was delivered to our [hospital] with a gunshot wound to the head. His biological death was recorded despite doctors' efforts [to save his life]," Gyumri medical center deputy director Armen Khachatryan told Interfax on Tuesday.
Armenian police confirmed the murder to Interfax, but declined to comment further.
Vardevan Grigoryan was the rector of Gyumri Pedagogical University.
The election of Gyumri's mayor is due to take place on October 2.
