Motor vehicle manufacturing in Kazakhstan falls 29% in January-August

ASTANA. Sept 20 (Interfax) - In January-August 2016, Kazakh car makers produced 7,313 vehicles, 29% less than in the same period last year, KazAvtoProm said.

"In [the first] eight months of 2016, Kazakhstan produced 42 billion tenge worth of cars [339.35 tenge / $1]. In August car production totaled 12.3 billion tenge or 2,120 cars including trucks and busses," the report says.

"The main factor behind the decline is a sharp fall in demand for new cars," KazAvtoProm said.

Production of trucks rose 18.3% in January-August 2016 compared to the same period last year and amounted to 1,047. Passenger car production increased by 57.8% in August to 1,954.

Asia Auto (Ust-Kamenogorsk) holds a dominant position on the market, selling 3,673 vehicles (52.4% of total sales).

SaryarkaAvtoProm (Kostanay) offered for sale 2,311 vehicles (32.9%), Kazakhstan AgromashHolding sold 381 cars (5.4%), Hyundai Auto Truck & Bus 372 cars (5.3%), KAMAZ-Engineering 195 cars (2.8%), and SemAZ 83 cars (1.2%).

Over the eight months the best selling car brands were Lada, Kia, Hyundai, Skoda and JAC and the locally assembled Geely, Chevrolet, Peugeot, Toyota and SsangYong.
