Putin launches production at Vostochno-Messoyakhskoye oil field via video link

NOVO-OGAREVO. Sept 21 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin launched commercial production at the Vostochno-Messoyakhskoye (East Messoyakha) oil field in Yamalo-Nenets autonomous district, Russia's most northerly onshore oil field, via a video link, an Interfax correspondent reported from the ceremony.

Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller also took part in the ceremony, as did Rosneft CEO Igor Sechin, who was on location at the Vostochno-Messoyakhskoye field.

JSC Messoyakhaneftegaz, which is controlled on an equal footing by Gazprom Neft and Rosneft, holds the Vostochno-Messoyakhskoye license. Gazprom Neft holds the operatorship.

Vostochno-Messoyakhskoye produced its first oil in pilot mode in October 2012. Work on the field's main infrastructure began in 2014.

The project is being carried out on conditions of full transport and infrastructure autonomy. The field's oil will be transported via the Zapolyarye-Purpe pipeline.

The Messoyakha cluster of fields was discovered in the 1980s and is the most northerly of Russia's known onshore oil fields. The project is located on the Gydan Peninsula, in the Tazov district of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous District in an Arctic environment, 340 km north of the city of Novy Urengoi.

The group's recoverable C1+C2 reserves as of January 1, 2016 were just over 470 million tonnes oil and condensate and 188 billion cubic meters (bcm) of gas.
