Milk purchase interventions to begin in May 2017 - Soyuzmoloko
MIKHAILOVSK (Stavropol territory). Sept 22 (Interfax) - Purchase interventions on the milk market may begin in May 2017, Artyom Belov, the executive director of Russian national dairy producers' association Soyuzmoloko said.
"The dairy industry should have a mechanism for supporting prices. The Agriculture Ministry is bound and determined and plans to launch the intervention mechanism in May in the regions with highly seasonal milk production," Belov said at the AgroYug forum in Stavropol territory on Thursday.
This primarily applies to Altai and Bashkortostan, he said. "I hope the pilot projects will be expanded to the entire country. This is real price support. It will affect project breakeven periods," he said.
The Agriculture Ministry declined to comment on Belov's statement, except to say that the interventions would be conducted during the peak milk season, generally considered to be the pasture season.
