Moscow concerned about condition of several Soviet war graves in Hungary - Russian Defense Ministry
BUDAPEST. Sept 22 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian side notes the general satisfactory condition of Russian (Soviet) war graves in Hungary, but the country also has certain concerns, which are particularly caused by the removal of the Russian monuments in several populated localities in this country, Russian deputy defense minister's personal assistant Alexander Kirilin told journalists on Thursday.
"Besides, we are concerned about the condition of the war tombs in the populated localities of Miskolc (Kalvaria Park) and Zsambek, as well as the unauthorized dismantlement of Russian (Soviet) monuments in the populated localities of Jaszapati and Csany, repair of a war grave unsanctioned by the Russian side in the village of Galambok, illegal unveiling of the memorial plaque to German and Hungarian soldiers at the Soviet tombstone in the village of Solymar," the head of the Russian delegation, following a meeting of the Joint Russian-Hungarian Intergovernmental Commission on implementing the agreement on mutual conservation of the war graves that ended in Budapest on Thursday.
Besides, the Defense Ministry insists "on the restoration in the original form of the monuments in the populated localities of Jaszapati, Csany, Galambok and Solymar, restoration repair of the Soviet tombs in Miskolc (Kalvaria Park) and Zsambek," Kirilin also said.
The Hungarian delegation agreed on the Russian side's conclusions and said they are ready to facilitate to hold the talks with the local self-government bodies on the reconstruction of the Soviet monuments, Kirilin said.
The Hungarian side has also supported the Russian proposal to exhume the remains of the Soviet warriors in the city of Szikszo, study the archival documents and involve the Search Movement of Russia in the search operations if necessary.
