Vnukovo passenger traffic falls 18% in Aug, by 43% on international flights

MOSCOW. Sept 23 (Interfax) - Passenger traffic at Vnukovo Airport amounted to 1.685 million people in August 2016, the airport's managing company said on Thursday.

This is 18% lower year-on-year.

Domestic flights rose 0.1% to 1.192 million passengers. Meanwhile international flights through the airport fell 43% to 493,000 people.

Last year, the closure of flights with Ukraine, Egypt, and also the halt of charter flights with Turkey (which were resumed at the start of September) led to a decline in flights by Russian airlines, and accordingly, Russian airports. Passenger traffic was negatively impacted by the departure from the market of the Transaero airline, and also foreign airlines, demand for flights of which fell amid the difficult economic situation in Russia.

For 2016, Vnukovo is expecting a fall in passenger traffic by 14% to 13.5 million people, JSC Vnukovo International Airport and JSC Vnukovo Airport CEO Vitaly Vantsev.
