Tajikistan proposes engagement of Afghanistan in regional integration processes via stronger economic ties with neighbors
DUSHANBE. Sept 26 (Interfax) - Dushanbe believes it will be necessary to broaden targeted assistance to Azerbaijan for the purposes of economic recovery, stronger social security and creation of jobs, Tajik Foreign Minister Sirodjidin Aslov said.
Tajikistan supports the international strategy of comprehensive settlement and post-conflict recovery of Afghanistan, he said at the 71st session of the UN General Assembly.
"We need to strengthen our support to the Government of Afghanistan, especially during Afghanistan's Transformation Decade (2015-2024). An important factor in this respect is the involvement of Afghanistan in the process of regional integration through strengthening of economic and trade ties with neighboring countries. [...] We are ready to take part in the rehabilitation of the social and economic infrastructures of Afghanistan by connecting the transport arteries of our two countries, creating the 'energy bridge' CASA1000, providing the Afghan population with essential commodities and training of specialists," Aslov said.
The minister noted that international cooperation in the field of drug control would remain a priority of Tajikistan's government.
"Prevention of illicit drug trafficking, which has turned into a breeding ground for terrorism and organized crime, requires joint and concerted actions of the entire international community. Therefore, we believe that the fight against drug trafficking is part of combating organized crime, terrorism and extremism and reaffirm that international cooperation on drug control will remain one of the priorities of the government of Tajikistan," Aslov said.
