Deputy imam shot dead in Russia's Stavropol territory
MOSCOW/STAVROPOL. Sept 27 (Interfax) - The deputy imam of the Neftekumsk district in Russia's southern Stavropol territory was found dead on a road that links the city of Budyonnovsk and the village of Kara-Tyube, the press service of the Russian Investigative Committee's regional branch said.
A source in the region's security services told Interfax earlier that an imam had been killed and his body had been found near his car on a road leading to the village of Kara-Tyube on Monday evening.
A criminal investigation was opened into the murder, the press service said.
The deputy imam's body bearing multiple gunshot wounds was found outside his car near the Praskoveya-Achikulak motorway, investigators said.
"The investigation is focusing on several theories behind the murder, including a possible conflict on the road when driving a motor vehicle," the press service said.
