Uzbekistan begins fruit, vegetable supplies for Russia's Magnit chain
TASHKENT. Sept 27 (Interfax) - Uzagroexport, a foreign trade company, began the supply of fruit and vegetables for Russia's Magnit retail chain in the framework of a contract closed with JSC Tander (the operating subsidiary of the retailer), Uzagroexport's management told Interfax.
Before the end of this year, it is planned to supply the Russian company with products for $10 million. First, persimmon supplies began, then it is planned to supply grapes, quince, other fruit and also vegetables.
"This is the first direct contract signed by Uzagroexport and a large Russian retail chain. The goal of direct contracts is to remove intermediaries from the supply chain, to reduce prices and make Uzbekistan's products more accessible for Russian citizens," the company said.
Currently, Uzagroexport is close to signing a similar contract for fruit and vegetable supplies with X5 Retail Group.
