Rostransnadzor officials charged with taking over 1 mln rubles in bribes - Russian Investigative Committee
MOSCOW. Sept 28 (Interfax) - Detained officials from the Federal Service for Supervision in the Sphere of Transport (Rostransnadzor) have been charged with taking more than 1.1 million rubles in bribes for warning businessmen about pending inspections, the Russian Investigative Committee press service said.
"Officers from the central department of the Federal Service for Supervision in the Sphere of Transport notified representatives of entities about pending inspections for a fee and cleared them of administrative liability for violations. At least 1.15 million rubles were taken as bribes," the press service said in a report seen by Interfax on Wednesday.
Investigators have been uncovering similar crimes, it said.
"Today, within the framework of this criminal inquiry, investigators are conducting searches at more than 27 locations, including the Rostransnadzor territorial unit. Investigative proceedings are underway in order to detain individuals implicated in this crime," the press service said.
A source close to the investigation process told Interfax that Rostransnadzor Moscow city department head Igor Surzhik and Rostransnadzor southern department head Igor Vysotsky were being questioned.
"Their procedural status will be determined later," he said.
