Azerbaijani and Russian presidents make key contribution to settlement of conflicts - Russian Deputy PM Golodets

BAKU. Sept 29 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev have been playing a major role in the development of relations between the two countries, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Olga Golodets said.

"National and military conflicts are erupting all over the world today. They are ruining all of the efforts made by scholars and specialists. They are reducing economic wellbeing to nothing. In this sense, it is a key mission of politicians from all countries to strengthen ties between peoples at all levels. In this context, I would like to hand it to the presidents, whose wisdom allows us to build a long-term policy and successfully hold negotiations, which eventually lead to the settlement of conflicts," Golodets said at the 5th International Humanitarian Forum in Baku on Thursday.

Azerbaijan and Russia have signed more than 90 agreements in different areas, she said.

"I think that this cooperation will continue, and it is highly important for us today to see personal contacts begin between professionals and specialists in addition to cooperation. I am proud that there are lots of people from Azerbaijan, from Baku among my friends," she said.

The two countries share close cultural ties, Golodets said.

"Our mission is to pass cultural ties to the youth, to the younger generation. The future lies with the development of mutual understanding and cultural exchange," she said.

The deputy prime minister also read out the Russian president's greeting.
