Tajik authorities want to make Tajikistan agro-industrial country by 2030

DUSHANBE. Sept 30 (Interfax) - The Tajik government approved a national development program for the period until 2030 on Friday.

The document was adopted at a government meeting chaired by President Emomali Rahmon, the Tajik presidential press service said.

The document, drafted by ministries with the assistance of experts, aims to ensure the achievement of national priorities in the period until 2030. It is the second long-term development program of the country based on goals, available resources and the impact of external factors.

"The purpose of the national development program of the Republic of Tajikistan for the period until 2030 is to create worthy living conditions for the people in the next 15 years. Seeking to achieve those goals, President Emomali Rahmon mentioned a number of important factors, such as development of human potential, quality competitiveness of the economic sector, industries' contribution to GDP growth, Tajikistan's transformation from an agrarian country to an agro-industrial nation, and a three-fold growth of the country's generating capacity, from 17 billion to 45 billion kWh," the report said.

Other factors of the implementation of the strategy for the period until 2030 are literacy of the population, longer life expectancy, lower mother and child mortality rates, better living conditions, creation of jobs, employment, and steady achievement of micro- and macro-economic development tasks.

The country and its government have a number of important tasks to solve in order to implement the strategy, the report said. The primary objects are the fulfillment of three strategic tasks: the end of the country's isolation in the communications field, the provision of energy independence and the achievement of food security.
