Syria sees 71 truce violations in past 24 hours - Russian Defense Ministry
MOSCOW. Oct 2 (Interfax) - More than 70 truce violations were seen in Syria in the past 24 hours, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
"As many as 71 violations of the cessation of hostilities regime by illegal armed units were seen over the past day in the provinces of Aleppo (45), Damascus (18), Latakia (five) and Hama (three)," the Russian center for reconciliation of opposing sides in Syria said in a bulletin released on Saturday.
A number of Aleppo city districts, including those hosting governmental forces, came under attack, the Russian Defense Ministry said. The first and second checkpoints on the Castello road, the Castello shopping center (thrice), governmental forces' positions in the Khai-al-Ansari and 1070 districts, cement and gas plants, and the al-Asad Military Academy were shelled, the bulletin said.
Militants fired improvised multiple rocket launchers, anti-tank guided missiles, mortars and small arms in a number of provinces, it said.
"The Russian Aerospace Forces and the Syrian Air Force did not strike on armed opposition formations, which had declared the cessation of hostilities and had informed either the Russian or U.S. reconciliation center about their location," the Russian Defense Ministry said.
