Kyrgyz president grateful for support from fellow citizens which helped him recover
BISHKEK. Oct 3 (Interfax) - Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev has thanked citizens of Kyrgyzstan and compatriots living abroad for the moral support he received while ailing.
"Dear fellow citizens, I cordially thank you for supporting me and my family at the time of the ordeal we found ourselves in during my sudden heart attack," Atambayev said in an address published by the presidential press service on Monday.
"Any kind words, moreover prayers and sincere sympathy, are particularly valuable at such moments; you gave me the will and the strength to defeat the disease. Such things are never forgotten, and my family and I are grateful to all of you," Atambayev said.
The Kyrgyz president developed a heart condition on September 19 as he was taking a connecting flight in Istanbul on his way from Bishkek to New York for the UN General Assembly session. Atambayev had to call off his working visit and to go on vacation due to the sudden illness. He remained under observation of Turkish doctors from September 19 till 22, and came to Moscow on September 23 to continue his treatment at the Central Clinical Hospital of the Presidential Property Management Department.
The treatment ended on October 1, and the president returned to Bishkek and got back to work on the same day. Atambayev met with Presidential Administration head Farid Niyazov and Defense Council head Temir Jumakadyrov on Monday.
