"We have prepared and reconstructed infrastructures over the past two years in order to increase travel speed and to offer better conditions compared to sea transport. Comparing transportation volumes, we predict that cargo traffic between Asia and Europe may grow from $700 billion to $1.2 trillion by 2020," RZD President Oleg Belozerov said while presenting the transport and logistics potential of the Eurasian space on the sidelines of the Russian-Kazakh Interregional Cooperation Forum.
Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Kazakh counterpart Nursultan Nazarbayev attended the presentation.
In the words of Belozerov, railway transport is successfully competing against sea shipping and the speed of rail deliveries from the EU to the Asia Pacific region is twice as high.
