Russia, Kazakhstan may lift restrictions on flights between Moscow, Astana, Almaty - Sokolov
MOSCOW. Oct 4 (Interfax) - Russia and Kazakhstan agree upon conceptual approaches for future cooperation in flights, Russian Transport Minister Maxim Sokolov said during the XIII forum on interregional cooperation between Russia and Kazakhstan on Tuesday.
"Yesterday during a meeting with the government of Kazakhstan, we agreed upon conceptual approaches to our future cooperation. This most of all is the lifting of restrictions on flights along existing routes to Astana and Almaty from Moscow, the appointment of second transporters on these routes," he said.
Also, the minister said: "Declaring the rejection of protectionist approaches, it was proposed to implement the concept of a so-called Eurasian open sky. He said that the main priorities of this concept include the liberalization of air transport, general aerial navigation, general requirements for air transporters, equal tariffs and indiscriminate access to infrastructure.
"We already prepared a draft road map, which may become the main cooperation activity in five-sided format in the framework of the Union, we sent it to our Kazakh colleagues," Sokolov said.
