Serious violations detected during vote count in Georgian parliamentary elections - President Margvelashvili

TBILISI. Oct 9 (Interfax) - Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili said he was content with the course of the country's electoral process, which had vigorously continued for a month and a half.

On the whole, the electoral process was "quiet and constructive with several exceptions, which did not change and did not complicate the general picture," the president said at a press briefing on Sunday.

"The situation on the election day was calm and the voters were active. The elections passed off peacefully on the whole, except for one or two instances. Regrettably, several serious violations, including aggressive actions, were uncovered during the vote count. A timely response needs to be given to all of these cases so that the elections held in October 2016 would meet international standards," Margvelashvili said.

The second-round elections will be held in a large number of single-seat electoral districts, he said.

"I call on all of the voters to actively participate in the second rounds of the elections as well," the president said.

The parliamentary elections took place in Georgia on October 8.
