Airstrikes in Yemen must be thoroughly investigated, organizers severely punished - Russian Foreign Ministry
MOSCOW. Oct 9 (Interfax) - The Russian Foreign Ministry has demanded punishment of those responsible for the massive loss of life as a result of a bombing in Yemen.
"Such an attack, with such a civilian casualty toll is bound to prompt outrage and condemnation. It must be investigated most thoroughly and objectively and its organizers and perpetrators face due and strict punishment," the ministry said in a commentary.
Around 200 people were killed and over 500 injured in an airstrike on a building where a mourning ceremony was taking place in Sana'a, Yemen's capital, on October 8.
"In view of these tragic events, we express our deep condolences to the families and loved ones of those killed and sincere wishes of swift recovery to those injured," the ministry said.
"We are convinced that the only way to avoid a repeat of this kind of tragedy is by ending the violence and resuming a full political process in which Yemenis themselves, without outside interference, will decide their own future on the basis of relevant UN Security Council resolutions and decisions by the National Dialogue Conference in Yemen," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
