Pentagon not commenting on Russia's plans to set up permanent naval base in Syria's Tartus

WASHINGTON. Oct 11 (Interfax) - The Pentagon has declined to comment on Russia's plans to establish a permanent naval base in the Syrian port of Tartus.

U.S. Department of Defense spokesperson Michelle Baldanza told Interfax that the Pentagon had seen these reports, but it currently had no additional information on that score.

Russian Deputy Defense Minister and State Secretary Nikolai Pankov said at a session of the Russian Federation Council's International Affairs Committee on Monday that the Russian Defense Ministry was preparing documents that would allow the creation of a permanent naval base in Syria's Tartus.
