North Korea's nuclear weapons guarantee security on Korean Peninsula - DPRK Embassy to Russia
MOSCOW. Oct 11 (Interfax) - A war on the Korean Peninsula would inflict heavy economic losses of $20 trillion and would destroy more than 500 cities, the North Korean Embassy to Russia said in a statement seen by Interfax.
"Military observers believe that a war on the Korean Peninsula would inflict catastrophic damage of four kinds: economic losses of $20 trillion, destruction of more than 500 megalopolises, the loss of over one billion lives and, finally, desertification of the entire Earth," the statement said.
"It took Europe 30-50 years to recover from WWII and to regain the pre-war level from ruins, yet in case of WWIII or a global thermonuclear war the world will stay primitive for 100 or 200 years before the recovery begins," the statement said.
Nuclear weapons possessed by North Korea are a guarantee of security on the Korean Peninsula, it said.
"Now that North Korea has powerful nuclear deterrence forces the United States will never dare to touch it," it said.
"Just nuclear weapons, which suppress the injustice, guarantee the true peace," the Embassy said.
