One Donetsk militiaman killed, situation tense - Donetsk People's Republic

DONETSK. Oct 16 (Interfax) - The self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) has recorded nearly 500 truce violations by the Ukrainian armed forces in the past 24 hours.

"The situation in the Donetsk People's Republic remains tense. Over the past 24 hours, the Ukrainian forces violated the ceasefire 478 times, including 325 times by using heavy artillery and mortars," senior DPR defense representative Eduard Basurin said at a briefing on Sunday.

In all, ten populated areas have been shelled, with most of the mortar rounds (207 pieces) of the 120- and 82-millimeter caliber launched against the populated area of Oleksandrivka and the village of Trudovske outside the city of Donetsk, Basurin said. "Also, eight 152-millimeter artillery shells were launched against Petrovskyi District of Donetsk," he said.

"As a result of the mortar shelling of our positions by units of the Ukrainian armed forces, one DPR army military serviceman was killed," he said.
