Modernizing Kyrgyz army must rid itself of corruption - Atambayev
BISHKEK. Oct 17 (Interfax-AVN) - Rearming and modernization of the Kyrgyz Armed Forces and military discipline are primary objectives, Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev said.
Atambayev met with Armed Forces General Staff Chief Raimberdi Duishenbiyev, who told the head of state about strengthening and development of the Armed Forces, including measures improving the interaction between defense agencies, the presidential press service told Interfax on Monday.
Care for servicemen and modernization and rearming of the Armed Forces are listed amongst national priorities, the president said. "Thus, the military command and servicemen themselves should actively bolster military discipline, cleanse their ranks and get rid of corruption in the Armed Forces," Atambayev said.
He called for the soonest creation of an efficient structure of the Armed Forces, which would be adequate to modern threats and challenges.
