Deputy foreign minister, EEAS secretary-general discuss military-political, humanitarian situation in Syria
MOSCOW. Oct 17 (Interfax) - The Russian President's Special Representative for the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov discussed the situation in Syria with the Secretary-General of the European External Action Service (EEAS), Helga Schmid, in Brussels on Sunday.
"During an interested and frank exchange of views, in which Russia's Permanent Representative to the EU Chizhov also participated, the main focus was on military-political and humanitarian developments in Syria and the situation in Libya," the Russian Foreign Ministry said on its website.
"It was stressed that the conflicts in the Middle East and North Africa region should be settled on the basis of the principles of international law and relevant UN SC [Security Council] resolutions," the statement said.
The meeting was held on preliminary agreement, the ministry said.
