Fire at missile-building plant's warehouse in Samara put out, no one hurt
SAMARA. Oct 18 (Interfax) - The fire that broke out at the warehouse of the Space Rocket Center Progress has been fully extinguished, the company's spokesperson told Interfax on Tuesday.
"The fire was put out at around 5:30 p.m. [4:30 p.m. Moscow time], no one has been hurt," the spokesperson said.
It was reported earlier that a report about the fire at the Progress warehouse was received after 2 p.m. local time. The fire covered a total area of around 600 square meters, the firefighting effort involved 17 pieces of equipment.
The fire broke out in a structure adjacent to a stand-alone building where auxiliary products - medical syringes - were stored, the company spokesperson said.
The fire may have been caused by a short circuit, a source in regional technical oversight agencies told Interfax.
"It is believed the fire started in a structure adjacent to the warehouse. The theory about faulty wiring there, either on account of it having been laid incorrectly or mechanical damage, is being checked," the source said.
Failure to comply with safety regulations and a human factor are also being probed as possible causes.
